7 Types of Friends Everyone Needs

There’s no doubt about it: friends make our lives better. We need friends to help us get through rough times, share our happy moments, and inspire us to become the best version of ourselves.

There are many different types of friends and the following seven are the ones we all need in our lives.

1.     The ride-or-die friend

If there’s one friend everyone needs in their life, it’s the ride-or-die friend. The saying “A friend in need is a friend indeed” describes this friend perfectly. This is the type of friend that will stick by your side no matter what. Whether you need someone to talk to at 2 am or help you move across the state, the ride-or-die friend will always be there – no questions asked.

2.     The responsible friend

It’s great to have a friend who will go along with your every idea, but you also need someone in your life that will be a voice of reason. The responsible friend will remind you to do your taxes and call your mom. Keep in mind that most of us have this type of friend in our life, but we tend to underestimate their significance. So don’t forget to show your responsible friends how much you appreciate their level-headedness.

3.     The always down to party friend

We all need to let our hair down every now and then and having a friend who is always up for a good time will make your life much more enjoyable. The party friend will never tell you they’re too tired to go out even if it’s the middle of the workweek. With a friend like this, you’ll never have to worry about not having enough fun or enjoying life to the fullest.

4.     The health-conscious friend

What would we do without the super health-conscious friend who always has all the best tips on diet and fitness? This friend will motivate you to switch your Pringles for kale chips, get up at 5 am to go for a run, and drink green smoothies instead of sugary margaritas for brunch. Yes, it’s not always fun to do these things but it’s what’s best for us and we need are health-conscious friends to help us stay on track with our health goals.

5.     The friend who listens

We usually go to friends when we need to hear their advice, but don’t underestimate the value of a friend who will just listen to you rant and complain without trying to get their two cents in. Very few people know how to really listen these days, so consider yourself lucky if you have a friend who is always there to lend a sympathetic ear when you need it.

6.     The blunt friend

Friends who are super honest often get the short end of the stick. This is because a lot of people want others to sugar coat things for them instead of telling it like it is. While hearing the truth won’t always make you feel good, you need a blunt friend in your life to give you a reality check. What’s great about this type of friend is that they will always tell you what they think so you won’t have to worry about them being fake or talking behind your back.

7.     The idealistic friend

Idealists are often thought of as naïve but these are the type of people who never lose hope – even when everyone around them is losing theirs. The idealistic friend will balance out the blunt people in your friend group and inspire you to dream big. While it’s good to be realistic about your goals and dreams, we all sometimes need that extra dose of motivation to help us overcome obstacles and recognize our true potential.
